Wow... the sales have been a real let down.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

They are giving away battle packs with $40 purchase? That seems very generous to me, that is a $12-14 set depending on where you shop - have they ever done something like this before?

Agreed that the other discounts are not very good - too limited a selection, and with the TRU markup, it doesn't work out to 30% off, more like 20%. We will see how Amazon matches these prices. I have been building Imperial Flagship, and thinking of getting Queen Anne's Revenge as a comparison.

I also have these TRU coupons I should use up this month, so when you pair it with the battle packs, bricktober magnet, etc, it's not too bad.

I just checked out the flyer. This is actually a pretty great sale if you are interested in the Kingdoms Castle: $73.50 after discount, plus free battle pack ($13 value) and magnet.

Yea, was pretty dissapointed today when I purchased some legos from the Welliston store and they were already out of stock of the Bricktober magnets and the lady hosting the build event was rude and wouldn't let me put a set together for my 10 month old son. "kids only" This is after I purchased $60 worth of lego there this week and over $100 last week..and lets not start counting how much I have spent at TRU over the past 4 months :(. I did end up picking up the Black Pearl for $99 from Target in Plattsburg prior to coming home. Seems like I keep missing out of the free stuff.... Should have waited until tomorrow. Oh well, the customs officer let me go through without any hassles this time so was worth the trip. So far, 38,000 pieces, 254 minifigs and counting..

it's not that bad. 3x v-wing + 1 battle pack for $46.17+tax. it's a $72 msrp value, about 36% off. plus you get a classic castle magnet set. :-P

the castle is also pretty neat. $73.49 for $112 msrp value, slightly under 35% off.

if you have some serious issue paying the tru tax, then get the space center. $48.99 for $82 msrp value, which is about 40% off.

tru has since changed it's return policy, hence i am not sure how this will affect the sw "gift" set.

I just looked up that part of the return policy you mentioned, I always wondered how they handled this. It also explains why freebies, such as the bricktober magnet appear to have a price that is crossed out when viewed online:

"Any product that is returned without a promotional item(s) that was included with the original transaction (e.g., buy a TV, get a free DVD player; buy a TV, get a free gift card; or buy a TV, get a DVD player half off) will have the value of the promotional item deducted from the refund amount."

in store in the US the bricktober magnets ring up with a price of $0.01.
i have successfully returned an item from week 1 without the magnet,
and i got full value for the return.
they did not even take away the $0.01,
although i would not have minded if they did.

you sure? on my receipt it has a refund price which is lower than the item price.

on another note - the free battle pack promo takes precedence over the 30% off. so this means you can get 2x v-wing and get a free battle pack. super!

$30.78 for $52 msrp or 41% off. pretty good deal.

When I did buy 2 get one free, they prorated the price across the sets so if you returned one you only got a partial price back (similar to Target). But your original receipt does not look like things are prorated.

I bought and this is what my physical receipt looked like:
AC Jet Copter $39.99
City Police Helicopter $34.99
City Advent Calendar FREE ( but $34.99 retail)
Ninjago Shrine FREE ( but $9.99 retail)
TOTAL paid: $74.98

I looked at my rewards account and it appears as this:
AC Jet Copter $27.26
City Police Helicopter $16.82
City Advent Calendar $23.86
Ninjago Shrine $7.04 (which I think I got b/c of the Helicopter)
TOTAL: $74.98

When I went in with the gift receipt to ask about returning the Jet Copter set, I was told I would get back $27.26, so they definitely are taking into consideration the price of the "free" set in returns now. But I didn't ask about a return with my actual itemized receipt but I don't think they would have given me back $39.99. BUT with gift receipts your recipients definitely get back the adjusted amounts, just an FYI.

However, with the Brictober magnets, the price is definitely zero on my rewards detail and I believe I was charged a penny and then it was taken off. It seems like you can return your item and perhaps keep the magnet without them complaining.

Picked up HP QAR. I was able to stack my $10 off on $50 coupon and pick a battle set. Free bricktober and I also used $30 reward dollars. Total $65.36 out the door.

The moron at my TRU gave us week 2's magnet instead of week 3. He told us that was the current one but since none of had the ad it was hard to argue it. Although I don't care too much since they are glued to the base, I may just sell them on E-bay or give them to the kids. Also, I had them split my order up so I could get two battle packs! Score!

If you plan to get the TRU sets discounted by 30%, in my case the Lego 7326 Rise of the Sphinx, you end up saving a total of 40% before tax (add the 3 items you get: 7326, Free Battle pack and the free magnet minifig) Not a bad deal if you really plan to get a battle pack :-D (Just make sure you get a total of $75 worth of sale items to maximize free shipping)

There was a flyer about a week or two ago that had the coupon. Everybody got a different one. Some were $10 off $50, $10 off $75, $10 off 100. My coupon didn't expire until the 10/28 and I was waiting to stack it. Either way you still came on top with a free battle pack.

in the past, free is free. now given the new tru policy it is better to include the free item only to return it. you could still get extreme bargains from tru deals, except not in the manner you are used to in the past.

for e.g., my purchase of 2 v-wings+1bp resulted in the v-wings' cost of only 9.80 ea, while the "free" bp was around $11. not much "savings" considering bp retails for around $11-12. i plan to return the bps while keeping the v-wings.

made a terrible mistake last week when i didn't stack the cmf b2 for $5 with the "free" $20 ninjago battle arena. could have gotten 20 cmf for $35.71+tax (at the worst calculation for per unit of $1.79) or 16 cmf for $25.27 (at the best calculation for per unit price of $1.58- assuming free item value is applied before the b2 for $5 sale).
