    Canada's First Legoland Discovery centre

Looks like Vaughan Mills will be getting a Legoland Discovery Centre in 2013. Anyone been to one of these before? How does it compare to a Legoland?

We haven't been to the Chicago Discovery Center for a couple years (DH is afraid my son will want to buy out the store if we go now - why he thinks this is different from any time we hit the LEGO store, I don't know), but I recall at that time it had a nice representation of downtown Chicago, a walk-through rainforest exhibit where older kids were given a list of things to find, a factory tour similar to LEGOLAND, a movie theater (I believe there was only one movie, playing, however), one ride-through type ride (Kindgoms theme, if I recall correctly), a build area and a big playground type area with oversized soft bricks and car building (similar to what's outside of the Downtown Disney store), as well as the store. They have special events on occasion - there was a SW weekend earlier this year, for example with characters (which unfortunately I failed to convince DH to attend).

It's significantly smaller than LEGOLAND, but it's cute. And those free child ticket coupons (with purchase of an adult ticket) they give away periodically are usually good for the Discovery Centers as well as LEGOLAND, which is a plus.

Ha! This is amazing, only 35 minutes on the highway - the closest lego store usually takes me more than an hour!

Just keep in mind that I don't think the Legoland stores participate in Lego sales or promotions. I don't think you can even collect VIP points.

^ Correct. The stores are not owned by TLG but Merlin Entertainment.

I did not realize Legoland store were different from TLG lego store until I had tried to return a set, which I'd bought at legoland, to TLG Lego store at March.

So they essentially bought the licence from TLG? Interesting...

Yes, I think they sold it back in 2004 or something as LEGO was experiencing very difficult times. TLG still owns a very portion of it though.

think the discovery centre will have a sizable miniland like legoland windsor? I was there in October and went there just for the miniland.
