Hey, thanks for posting the link coz' I didn't visit fbtb very often. The animation is a very good one subject to storyboard, effects, and color tone. A wonderful LEGO history lesson for me. I recommend all lego fans to watch this animation.

It was sad to hear when the workshop got fire in each of their generation. Nothing that has meaning is easy.

LEGO 80 Years Old Today

Post by Toys N Bricks » Fri Aug 10, 2012 7:59 pm

Today is LEGO's 80th birthday and it all started back in 1932 in Billund, Denmark (check out the video above). There's still a few minutes left of August 10, 2012 so I'm not too late. Happy Birthday LEGO! (:

To celebrate, LEGO Shop at Home USA and Canada will also be extending their free LEGO Birthday Cake promotion on orders above $50 until August 13, 2012.

Thanks for posting this, it really was a great move and telling of the history.

Is anyone wondering why LEGO is not making a bigger deal of the birthday by having some sort of in-store celebration? Besides the birthday cake, I suppose they could have done a little more. ;-) Or some sort of anniversary set that they market as a limited production? I think that would sell like hotcakes!

Anyone recall if they did something for the 75th? Maybe we have to wait to their 100th birthday?

The Town Plan was released to celebrate the birthday of the LEGO brick and not the company, correct?

I wish they did more than a lame birthday cake, but it is better than nothing.

I thought about this as well. They could have had an in-store promo where you searched for the birthday cake and got a small discount. Heck they did it for St. Patrick's Day, why not their own birthday!

Interesting that the molding examples were the inspiration for the first LEGO bricks. There are lots of fragile parts of this story where LEGO might have never been made or closed down. We are pretty lucky to have LEGO.

I watched it with my son. Then he watched it... Four times... In a row.

No one else found the dialogue really stilted and almost humorously awkward?

"things can't get worse"
"then his wife died"
"but he was special"

...and the number of times they said "system" in that one scene. That was a bit amusing. A good history lesson for sure though.
