LOTR MOC: Mount Doom

Post by soccerkid6 » Sun Aug 12, 2012 4:16 pm

Not wanting to pass up a shot at all the LOTR sets free I made this for the LOTR building challenge on LEGO.com.
Mount Doom, the one place where the ruling ring can be destroyed. I based this mainly off the movie, but the path is an important detail from the books. The top of the volcano lights up, though you can't see it in these pics because it's an official LEGO light brick and not very bright :roll: It's obviously quite a bit smaller than it should be, but it used all my dark bley/grey at this scale :problem: The bridge and mask are very accurate to the movie. In fact this is the most movie accurate Mount Doom MOC I've seen, though if you know of a more accurate one I would love a link!
Here are some pics:

Niiiiiiiiice. Too bad I know absolutely zilch about LotR. Y'know, other than that Lego makes their sets. But great looking build!

Your lava is super, nice job. I like the "bubbles".

The one nitpick, and it's a minor thing, is I think you should have used the Frodo and Sam figs from the Shelob set. They both have the cloaks and garb they were wearing during that part of the movie.

@legohunter: Thanks :-D

@lego the hutt: Thank you, you are right about the figs, but I don't have them at this time :down:

The random rock work looks excellent, you can barley see the path. And the bubbling lava is fantastic. Nice use of different trans colours and shapes.

My mostest favoritest band in the whole wide world actually has a song named after a Tolkien quote: "Faithless is He Who Says Farewell When the Road Darkens." That is the extent of my knowledge. I did read The Hobbit a million years ago in school and recall liking it...

Wow! The rockwork is great, but the lava brings it over the top!
