LEGO 40107 Holiday Part 2 Set 2014 Christmas

Post by Toys N Bricks » Mon Oct 20, 2014 3:04 pm

The LEGO Creator 40107 Holiday Part 2 Set for 2014 Christmas has been revealed, thanks to Brickset. Like previous years, the set would be a promotional item starting on Black Friday (November 28 22nd, 2014). It sure isn't a "part 2" of the current part 1 toy shop 40106 set being given away right now when you spend $99/€55 at LEGO Shop at Home & LEGO Brand Stores. Not an extension of the toy shop, but part 2 would be an ice rink with a slide.

I'm actually a bit disappointed that it's off the current subject. I was maybe hoping for something to round out the Santa workshop a little better as I feel that it's a bit lacking. Then againn, I'm the same guy who's holding out for white baseplates to tie it altogether.

PS Black/Brick Friday is the 28th here in the US. :)

Lego seemed to be implying this would be a further extension to Santa's Workshop, and I am disappointed that it is not. The good news is I don't have to worry about spending another $99 next month.

While I will still make an appearance (if my son cooperates) on Brick Friday, I must say I'm a little disappointed. I'm grateful for the opportunities and I love Lego, but...I don't know, I guess I was hoping for a little more creativity, like with set 1 (Elf workshop) from this month. Then again, this is coming from the guy who realizes that the Elf workshop is kind of a cop out in creativity, since Santa's workshop was released recently...but it is a nice companion to Santa's workshop... :)

I am a bit confused at the hockey stick design, dont they already have a hockey stick mold from one of the CMS?

I'm not going to bother spending $99 for this one. There's nothing about this set that says head out to the LEGO store & bring me home. Too bad, because I like part 1.

You're not the only one. It still amazes me that after so many years of the Winter Village and recently a theme set in the arctic we can't buy white baseplates. Seems like a really simple item that would sell really well. Sometimes I just don't understand Lego's business logic.

Yes they did, but maybe they only had a short run and they ran out?

Free is nice, but this set is a mess. It should either be a hockey game set or a sledding set not a mess of both.

Also if LEGO can make more ice skates every year, why not have some hockey sticks? Series 12 is just a bunch of redoes so why not make some more hockey sticks for this set and that series?

There is no question that this set is....simple.
Nothing special and lacking in connectivity with Toy Workshop and Santa's Workshop.
Yes it would have been better if Lego continued with the "workshop" theme. Sadly Lego did not seem to take that into consideration. Maybe they just wanted to add more to the outside "Villa" scenes from previous years than anything else.

As for why not include the hockey stick from the CMF, I think the answer is simple this is a Creator set. The purpose of the theme is to enhance the creativity of building with parts not use ready/snap on ones. Also because that way they can add more pieces to the set.

I guess if they offer something enticing that will make me place an order above $99 I will get it; otherwise I will miss it.

Unless they don't run out and put them for sale?

I convinced myself that this set was to be Rudolph in a reindeer stable. Oh well.
This set could be better otherwise, but it saves me money if since it is not fantastic.

For some reason I had myself convinced of the same thing. I even told my wife this last night that the second free set was going to be a reindeer with a small stable when I was showing her the Santa's Workshop set we received yesterday.

Very strange.

Yeah, I was hoping it would somehow tie to the bigger set.

It's funny - I had the same thought, about Rudolph being the second set. I noticed he was missing from the Santa's Workshop set right away. Granted, I believe I could always change out a stud or two to make one reindeer Rudolph...
