There are both totally stupid and vaguely cool in a Beast Wars sorta way.

I like the wing pieces on the minifigs and a few other parts but the vehicles don't impress me much.

This is the Year of Olive Green. Military MOCers must be spazzing out with joy.
The Speedorz are even more laughable than the spinners, which at least had those cool tops.
Seems like the SPeedorz are totally prebuilt with no MOCable parts at all.
But some of the Chima sets look like good dumb fun, even though a few are too hideous to endure. The bird vehicles and figs look pretty awesome, actually.

my sentiments exactly, the boat and winged vehicles look nice but Ninjago vehicles (especially fangpyre, elemental dragons and mechs) are more appealing.

I agree completely. sort of a Beast Wars spin off more than anything. which is cool, I really like the minifigures but not so much the vehicles. We said that about most of the Ninjago vehicles first run too.

I think Chima has huge potential with girls and boys. Kids might love this but will it take off like Ninjago?

I definitely like the more pronounced fantasy element. Until I see better pics of the sets (totally indifferent to the don't-call-them-spinners Speedorz) I'll remain a bit ambivalent. It's got promise for various groups if not cut and dry AFOLs: cool parts, unique colors, bizarre minifigs, oodles of kid appeal... This is actually the only theme I'm excited for in 2013. Theme, I say, cuz there are some scattered cool sets (Arkham, for one).

Ninjago had a historial feel to the sets. Sure they were silly, but there were buildings and statues and temples and such, there is none of that here, and that really hurts the term in my view.

Plus in the spring we will be getting new Space sets that have bugs as the bad guys and their ships match the species. So we will have two themes in which ships look like animals / bugs. I think that's too much.

There are also out-of-box pics from the same site. I threw them in a folder on dropbox because it automatically generates a cool slideshow. Some AWESOME stuff in these sets!

That's what they remind me of too! I was going crazy trying to remember what the toys were called, so thanks for mentioning them.

Nice wings!.. would also be perfect for an X-Men Angel minifig in the super hero theme

The lion faction reminds me of Lion-O from Thundercats.
