The 2014 LEGO Star Wars set pictures (January wave) are now here, thanks to Eurobricks. Eleven sets will be released with most of them based primarily on Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The new Battle Packs looks great with the new minifigures with 75035 Kashyyyk Troopers including even a mini Swamp Speeder. In this wave, new elements and features have been added such as new blasters and new spring loaded shooters.
75040 General Grievous’ Wheelbike looks like a great remake. What do you think of the new General Grievous minifigure?

More interested in the new sets now that I see pictures. I REALLY dislike the new blasters!!!!! They look terrible. Seems like a step backwards for lego....

Holy remakes!!!

Some interesting minifigs but not much interesting for the actual sets. I see clearance.

Death Star Troopers is the only OT set, but what a sweet set! I didn't know what to expect, but that set is so good, that I may have to backup the truck on that one. Last time I did that for SW LEGO was for the Imperial Dropship.
The new blasters are a big step back ... they are almost as bad as the old loudhailers with a trans-red round plate. Shooting 1x1 round plates sounds cool until you lose that piece. It better shoot at least 18 inches, but the more distance will equal the more pieces lost. :) I guess it is time to hoard the 'old' SW guns.

Not that exciting, except for the Death Star battle pack. I'll be picking up a ton of them.

Another remake of him? He looks even more Megablockish than the previous one. What do you think of the new General Grievous minifigure?
The new blasters look odd. I want to see one in person.
The Deathstar Troopers will go great in my Deathstar.
The new Chewbacca looks cool as well.

The new blasters look horrible. Are they flick blaster or something? That's what it looks lie to me.

Absolutely no thought whatsoever was put into this. How horrible!!!

Lego WTH are you thinking? It took you close to a decade to get the blaster right, and now you take this giant step backward with these little pop guns? I will be buying NONE of these sets. Although I will have to bricklink the new Chewbacca. Nice try LEGO to get us to buy that crappy Droid gunship by putting him in there, but no dice.
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

Well my couple of curiosity questions are as follows:
Why are we getting 10 small LEGO sets? None of those would crack the 500pc count.
Why in the world would they change the blasters (echoing the thoughts of others)?
Why so many remakes of sets we already have???
End of the day, these are 'Star Wars', and that means i'll be buying them. In the case of the BPs, probably up to 20 of each for army building purposes. But eventually the decision by LEGO to continue to recreate sets we have already had has to come to an end!
The Ewok Village was incredible! Why not a 2000+ piece Mos Eisley Cantina set?
Anyway...disappointed, but being one of those who are hypnotised because it is Star Wars, I'll still be buying.

^ Big Star Wars sets come out in the fall, not January. AT-AP and the Gunship are probably $70.

New blasters? They look like hair dryers to me.
The one nice thing is people can get Grievous in a set that isn't too expensive - that one is well done.

Exactly. So depressing. Half of these I already have, so WTF would I waste my money on this. Probably get the Death Star gunner and that is it.Max Power wrote:Holy remakes!!!

Re: LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures (75034 75035 75036 75037 75
I'm going to share my thought on how I feel towards these sets, both pros and cons.
Guns:
I know it's sad how Lego regressed the guns to a more Lego-ish simplistic design. But don't we all have tons of spare 'better' looking guns? I mean just because Lego made the battle pack troopers equip those guns, doesn't mean we have to use those guns on the troopers when we display them of course. The new guns are basically optional and don't have to be used. You should be glad that Lego only used them in battlepacks and not the rest. And yes, the guns do not look pleasant AT ALL!
Battlepacks:
Looking at the Death Star battle pack, the set itself does not look bad at all. But the Kashyyyk and Utupau troopers sets were given little to no effort at all. Just look at the mini swamp speeder in set 75035. So is that a remake of the previous swamp speeder we got or is that a mini speeder entirely made-up by Lego? And what is that thing the troopers are fighting in set 75036? Please don't tell me that is a tri-droid seen in the battle of Mygeeto in ROTS. There is no detail whatsoever in that thing. *But what I do like in these battlepacks are the minifigures. Lego did an impressive job in developing these troopers, from the details to the helmets.
Chewbacca:
Now for Chewbacca. Overall, he looks like a good minifigure and I thought it was time for Lego to redesign him (since he looked the same since 2000). The excessive detailing somehow reminds me of a Megablox figure. I still wouldn't use this Chewbacca for an Original Trilogy set for this is his ROTS variant, hence why he's in a ROTS set.
General Grievous:
General Grievous' new color is appropriate for the movie version, and was very pleased that Lego didn't remain the tan color from the Clone Wars variant. What I do NOT like is that Lego kept Grievous' long neck. In Episode III, Grievous never had a long neck. He only had the long neck when he appeared in the Clone Wars. I find it disappointing how Lego stuck with his long necked head mold.
Spring-Loaded missiles:
Last but not least, the new spring loaded missiles. I'm happy Lego is using them instead of flick-fire missiles, but will the spring-loaded replace the flick-fire? Because just by looking at the 2014 sets, it appears that Lego is overusing the spring loaded. They even unnecessarily added them in set 75037! I hope Lego wouldn't abuse them the same way how they abused flick-fires.
2014 looks like it's going to be another successful year for Lego, but I happened to be expecting new sets rather than remakes. Some of the remakes look impressive, some look like they had no change, and a couple looked like a downgrade rather than an upgrade. I hope Lego improves their plans and ideas and I'll be looking forward to when the summer sets are announced.

I'm echoing a lot of what everyone else is saying about the blasters, uninspired builds, and being megablocky but man those minifigs have got to be bought. Looks like Lego is going to continue to cash in on the fact that they know their market so well when it comes to minifigs.

A lot of these sets have caught my eye, but I'm waiting to see how heavy the "Star Wars tax" is.

I kind of like the new blasters. Things that shoot (not flick) are always a welcome play feature...even though I just display them on a shelf.
That being said this is the first star wars wave since I have been collecting as an afol that I am not interested in any of the sets. I tend to only buy the larger OT sets so there isn't anything here for me. I'm ok with that. There are plenty of LotR/Hobbit sets that I will be getting...maybe some Simpsons too.

Death star battle pack is the only one I'd be interested in. The rest are just blah. Too many clone troopers too.
