Obviously, this is only half the stock - more pics tomorrow.
Yes, this stock is for a real gun - the ubiquitous AR-15. Obviously it will need to be glued to stand up to recoil. This is a precursor to building the lower receiver out of bricks.
ETA: See page 3 for the reward for the return of the Mk5C prototype.

The proposal for a .177" caliber air rifle suppressor is on page 3.
Mk 2 1911 grips now on page 4. Now with video! Yes, they hold up to shooting.

Re: First pics of the brick AR-15 stock
Let me see if I can illustrate it - here's a pic of what I built:
http://www.feinsteinproject.org/loes/ef ... eRight.jpg
It's a stock built out of plastic bricks, rather than this built out of plastic:
Pure & simple, it's a rifle stock built out of plastic bricks.

Yeah, I understand WHAT it is, I just don't understand WHY it is.
Re: First pics of the brick AR-15 stock
I am lost to like many others. Are you building this so a real gun (the innards lets say) can be carried in public, only that it looks like a toy built out of blocks?

Re: First pics of the brick AR-15 stock
Nope. It'll be clear the rifle is real - only the stock, & ultimately the lower receiver that houses the trigger, hammer, & magazine, will be built out of bricks. The barrel, sights, forward handgrips (forearm), upper receiver, & the magazine sticking out will all be standard AR-15 parts. Even the trigger and safety are using common AR-15 parts.
In most of the US, it is legal to mill an AR-15 lower receiver out of aluminum, or print it out of plastic on a 3-D printer. We're apparently the first to attempt to build it out of plastic bricks. The stock is our first major step.

The following states have legal restriction on making, owning, buying, and selling of high capacity firearm magazine capacity: California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.backbencher wrote:Nope. Would using Technic beams, bricks, plates, pins strengthen the structure?

Absolutely, though we'd use actual metal screws rather than plastic pins. Here's a pic from LDRAW:

Re: First pics of the brick AR-15 stock
What is a better way to smooth out the corners in the back? I'm using the top of a turntable to avoid the corner & support a column of barrels, & then a Technic two sided female 5 holer to fasten the stack to the buttpad. Under recoil, bricks are sharp. I just need a little curve to take the edge off - I need a large flat part to spread the recoil forces against the shoulder. I'm looking @ the little curved pieces, but they end up w/ the sharp corner of the support on the outside of the curve. Even the big curved pieces have the same problem - unless you glue them in place - and I'm rather certain you don't want me to do that...
I guess I could use the 4x4 circle plates & interlock them across the butt - little wider than I want, but should work... Help me, my butt's too big...

This is what I sketched out w/ the 4x4 circle plates & the 3x3 curved plates:

Duh - I just use the 3x3 curved corners, don't I? Some days I really need more caffeine. Happy non-Communist Labor Day to everyone!

AR rifle stock ready for testing - MOC

If you have difficulty fitting the buffer tube, please feel free to contact me. The upper and the area around the buffer tube MUST be glued before firing.

Finally home from Kuwait, hence:

Add some glue, & she'll be ready for testing.

First 20 rounds, the top two endcaps fall off:
http://www.feinsteinproject.org/loes/ef ... eTake1.3gp
Next 30 rounds, the entire stock breaks exactly below the glued portion, going to have to go to epoxy, and I need some more bricks & a new buffer tube : )

Re: First pics of the brick AR-15 stock
Shoved $15 of Loctite Plastic Epoxy in it last night, should hold up better for this week's shoot. Epoxy's expensive, and when you're filling up bricks, a little tube of epoxy doesn't go that far.

Our third try is up, following application of $15 of Loctite Plastic Epoxy. Note the bottom part that falls off around the 35 round mark is unglued. I need to find someone selling epoxy in bulk!
