On counterpoint to cbaker's "avoid sets under $50 unless in bulk" claim. For the most part, sets under $40 will (at best) double in price over a period of time. However, no need only look to Indiana Jones and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire sets to see how far $50 (even at retail) will...

I think you may have only implied very important point: space considerations. The bigger the set, the more space you'll need to store something.
