Reddit has revealed an upcoming LEGO Jurassic World Building Event at Toys R Us stores in America. The picture below is taken from a Toys R Us store advertisement. On Saturday, June 20 from 12-2pm, you can join in for a free LEGO Jurassic World building event. The free build will be the Jurassic World Gate.

Has anyone been to one of these events? What is that thought of an AFOL going on his/her own?

An AFOL by him- or herself probably varies by store. Some years back, at my local TRU I could put together a set for myself, but eventually, as the events got more popular, the store became careful about letting only kids do it. Staff position themselves at the start of the line and hand baggies only to the kids. Since they typically run out of bricks within 30 to 60 minutes, this is probably reasonable, even if that means I don't get a set. I suspect other stores are less careful about it.

All the ones I've taken my kids to have signage saying its for kids between a certain age range. No adults were given one unless they had a kid with them.

Also, isn't this a mini version of a Lego Ideas set? I know my memory is shot right now, but didn't that set reach 10,000 votes? Did Lego vote against producing it, in its large state, and miniaturize it?

In that they are both based on the exact same pre-existing object, it's a mini version of the LEGO Ideas proposal - at least the portion that comprises the gate itself. IIRC, the Ideas proposal included the SUVs, and this doesn't.

But that's sort of the problem with creating an Ideas proposal based on existing IP: You don't own the "actual idea" behind it, so anyone can create their own version of it and you can't do anything about it. The only one who can claim that is the set designer for the original movie, and even then I bet Universal would have something to say about that, since they hired that person to design it for them, so they 'own' that idea. The creator of the Ideas proposal has as much power in this as I would if I drew a picture of the gate on a napkin and said "hey, LEGO ripped off my idea!"

I misses few of those events but made it to the last one with the mini wookiee gunship, I have no kids, stood in line for 15-20 minutes and I DID get it already in a bag, I was able to grab few instruction sheets though....wookiee gunship is still sitting on ebay-unsold....
I like this gate/entrance, I have to decide if I want to stand in line and risk being told that it's for kids only so....I'll see....

Went to the event with my kids, they enjoyed it. Our store also put the $3.99 Gallimimus set for sale near the event. The "Jurrasic World" piece is a sticker, not printed. Set had a lot of pieces.

Nice variety of sets offered for this theme! Great job Lego! They mix well pictured together.

Picked up two! But they "sold out" very quickly it seems. My wife was a big help in securing the second. Sorry - the second one already has a home for one of my friends (who works at the Lego store!) Be good to those who take care of you!

My TRU had them pre bagged and were handing them out so I was able to get one, employee said they were able to make about 101 of them.
