Re: insane TRU markups
I'm assuming that there is a BOGO sale next week to end Bricktober...
Re: insane TRU markups
Spongebob set 3833 is currently 15 at Target....only 31.99 at tru :)
I believe the sale next week is a 10 off 50 purchase and 25 off 100 purchase. Free vulture droid with xx.xx purchase.

Obviously they don't realize walmart/target/meijer is selling it for $15UnknownUser wrote:TRU's prices (well, half of them) are through the roof now. Notable price gouges include:

I have inoperable cancer and am unable to work. Any gifts would be appreciated. Thank you!
Re: insane TRU markups
City of Atlantis (7985) is marked up to $79.99 and Deep sea raider (7984) is marked up to $34.99.
Guess 'tis the season for TRU to screw the average consumer.
remember the TRU truck (7848) going up at this time last year?

Re: insane TRU markups
tru has been consistently marking up best sellers around thanksgiving and christmas, and this year is no different. just be smart around the deals...you can still find some good ones. otherwise, just get them from B&N using the 40% coupon and maybe even consider paying membership for another 10% off if you buy enough from there.
Re: insane TRU markups
I remember that as I bought it last August on sale (full price was $39.99, I think) and couldn't believe it went up to $49.99 and stayed at that price!ncbarrett wrote:Guess 'tis the season for TRU to screw the average consumer.

Re: insane TRU markups
I lucked out last year with that one. They had the TRU truck with the price under it of $34.99. It rang up wrong (of course) but they had to sell it to me anyway. It was even better that it was during a B2GO Free sale. Walked out with 3 for $70 + tax.ncbarrett wrote:remember the TRU truck (7848) going up at this time last year?
Maybe it's just my local store but TRU has been really good with standing behind their posted prices.
Re: insane TRU markups
Clone Turbo Tank is up to 139.99 lmao
Slave one is jacked to 94.99 also...
Just wow....

Re: insane TRU markups
I think for their business model they have to jack the prices up now to convince the casual Lego buyer that when they have a "sale" msrp is a deal. The funny thing though is that TRU will most likely sell everything on the shelves either way.
Re: insane TRU markups
Wow, first wave markups appears to be roughly a 20% markup above MSRP already. (and this is just the beginning)

Re: insane TRU markups
Even more sets are insanely overpriced now. AT-AT is $143 (RRP $110), Whitecap Bay is $97 (RRP $80), Hogwarts train is $102 (RRP $80) and more...

These markups are for unsuspecting parents buying gifts for children.
Re: insane TRU markups
I think it's also to accommodate all of their BOGO "sales". At the marked up prices, BOGO brings them to just about MSRP, and tricks people who don't know better into thinking they saved 25% when it was really closer to 5-10%, less if they weren't similarly priced items.Legobrandon wrote:These markups are for unsuspecting parents buying gifts for children.

Yes, this too. This is one thing I hate about TRU.cowbug wrote:I think it's also to accommodate all of their BOGO "sales". Re: insane TRU markups
If you don't like it, report them to your state's department of consumer protection (the name will differ in each state). I'm fairly certain that last week TRU hiked the price on some items the same day they advertised a BOGO sale, which violates consumer protection laws in most jurisdictions. As I recall, Kohls got in big trouble for that, advertising items on sale when the items never sold at the supposed regular retail price. This is the exact same thing. If enough people complain, maybe the States can put a stop to this practice at TRU.
Re: insane TRU markups
Everything is now 40% marked up. Quidditch Match is 90% markup.
Quidditch Match $37.99
Hogwarts Express $109.99
Hagrid's Hut $54.99

That's $3 more than Canadian MSRP. I think we have a winner!toyz4me wrote:Think I got a contender here...Checked today at local TRU in NY, $92.99 for Mill Village ( 7189 ) DANG!!!
Re: insane TRU markups
But it's a really good set...only kidding. When I went to TRU I would say 3/4 of all the shelves of Lego were cleared. I think TRU won this round and will continue along this route for holiday pricing.toyz4me wrote:Think I got a contender here...Checked today at local TRU in NY, $92.99 for Mill Village ( 7189 ) DANG!!!
