[Site News] Members Ranks

Post by Toys N Bricks » Sun Apr 11, 2010 8:50 pm

Ranks are given to members that have achieved a certain amount of posts. There has been inquries regarding ranks and whether we will get them at Toys N Bricks. However, we need suggestions for rank names and how many posts till they can get that specfic rank. Please post your ideas here. Once we have enough ideas, we will add the ranks. Thanks for the help !

Not sure what you quite mean with those numbers.

I'd imagine toystest means either LEGO plates or bricks, starting with 1x2 (though, I'd think we could start with 1x1) - I like the idea of the rank images. That's a built-in PHPBB3 feature, so I can't see it being a problem, as long as someone has the time to produce them.

Thanks toystest for those images ! What do you guys think of it so far? Rank names are currently medieval and ideas for rank names would be great.

I'm not sure if I like them being different sizes. I realize a 1x1 brick is really small compared to a 2x8, but I think it would make more sense if they were all in-proportion to each other.

I agree they would look better if they were the same size, I just could not find any that were shot at the same angle, color, lighting, etc

Would you guys prefer medieval, military, or contributor rank names? Or any other ideas?

I believe the highest there is right now is 50+ posts. I'll get a list out soon.

Looks good, the only thing is that the administrator and moderator don't really fit in with the theme. Can the images/names for those be changed as well? Or are they set within the code and not adjustable?

Well, if you're going with the medieval theme, 'King' for admin and 'Lord' for moderator would make sense. Though I'm not entirely sold on the medieval theme. I know it's been one of the oldest mainstays, but it doesn't necessarily pertain to all of your visitors.

I don't know how technical you want to get, but there's a MOD for the PHPBB software that allows you to add multiple 'rank tracks' based on user groups - after installing the mod, you could create groups that users can join that correspond with some of LEGO's themes, like CASTLE, SPACE, TOWN, etc, and then have different ranks for the same amount of posts in each group. For example, a Star Wars forum I used to frequent has 'Jedi' and 'Sith' rank tracks, each with different rank levels. I think they added a 'Bounty Hunter' rank track as well. Just a thought.
