Toysrus Canada Week 3 Bricktober!

Post by Brick75T » Wed Oct 10, 2012 4:56 am

Looks like another rather underwhelming sales week for week 3... according to the flyer it is 20% off City, Creator and Basic sets.

Free Darth Maul figure for $35 and above and of course another set of vintage minifigs at $75.

Wow if that Darth Maul is the shirtless one this is a heck of a deal...I want one put refuse to pay 15-20 bucks for one. One with a 35$ purchase would be sweet!

Does indeed to be shirtless. Now LEGO just needs to release one with robot legs (at least according to my son)
LEGO, it's not just a toy, it's an addiction... ;)

Correction... from the small print it looks like it is a free Darth Maul figure if you spend $35 or more on *Star Wars* lego...

So... $35 of TRU marked-up Star Wars LEGO... they certainly know how to push their products.

Wow, these "deals" are getting worse and worse. It would make more sense to have the 20% off Star Wars theme LEGO to go with the Darth Maul giveaway.

Wow, I'm shocked at all the hating on this thread....Would gladly grab 35$ worth in star wars Lego to get a shirtless darth maul....as I said they really don't go for less than $15 each+sh....wish I was in Canada :) Why discount Star Wars with the darth maul? Isn't it all about them getting you to buy stuff for the free item? Would seem counterproductive from a business stand point to offer the discount AND the figure....would it make it a better deal....yeah, but I do not think that is the point here.

Damn, I really want a Darth Maul. But why no sales for Star Wars? Even at regular Canadian prices, I don't want to pay that... not to mention TRU markups?

Hopefully, Wal-Mart or some other retailers have some Star Wars sets on sale this week. That way, we can price match. :)

:silent:
I feel like you don't realize how much TRU has been raising the prices on Lego and that's on top of our already high CDN prices...

I get what you are saying, but we're constantly disappointed with TRU Canada and since it's Bricktober with the second week of lame sales, we're rightly not thrilled with this setup.

^ very well said!

TRU Canad is not a customer oriented company - many bad experiences.

Your Desert Skiff and Advent Calendars are same priced as TRU USA....Those two for 80 and you get a shirtless maul worth 15-20 and the bricktober set...not too bad at all imo....Not saying everything is great, but just like TRU in the USA you have to pick and choose what you get, but I could def be happy with this promo. This figure has not been offered in the USA other than very rare giveaways...

Well at least with the creator sets I can get some parts, might buy some smaller city sets to give to a toy drive.

Totally agree, and I recall QuagsireQing on the week one thread said he\she will be spending lots in the comming weeks of sales. And I also recall myself replying that if it was like last year's sale, it will ge worst and worst. Sadly I was right. But lets all hope TRU will redeem themselves in the last two weeks of bricktober.

I consider the "what so" "Free" darth maul minifigure could not completely offset TRU markups in this promo . The closest set to $35 would be 9498 Saesee Tiin’s Jedi Starfighter or 7959 Geonosian Starfighter. However, 7959 was kind of periodically on sale (9498 will be the same destiny sooner or later), which could possibly be found at $20. Thus, we may end up paying $20 for this darth maul poly bag.

However, this "hard to find" Darth Maul minifigure is tempting to me. I may bite the bullet and pick 9498 for this event at the end.

According to a poster I saw at a TRU store, tomorrow (Friday) is midnight madness with specials starting @ 6pm.

No specifics on the specials but it did state that for purchases totalling >$100 you get a bonus 100 AM.

I was thinking of picking up SW Battle of Endor for $135 and get the Darth Maul, Vintage Minifigures and the 100 AM. Not too bad for a limited edition, now retired, SW set.

Don't forget that Bricktober is, first and foremost, a marketing campaign. It's designed for people to spend money, not save it. This is my third year participating in it, and while the deals were much better back in 2010 (25% off discontinued exclusives?!), 20% off select themes plus vintage minifigs and polybags is still a good deal, if you're in the market for those themes.

To me, TRU doesn't need to redeem themselves. They still offer the best deals consistent across Canada. My local Wal-Mart never discounts any LEGO; it sells just fine without them. Zellers is closed, and never had good selection. I'm 8 hours away from the border, and without coupons Barnes & Noble stopped being worthwhile for the most part. Most anything bought on eBay or BrickLink loses its savings in shipping costs.

The first week excited many of you with the half-price Toys 'R' Us truck, but I don't collect City, so I had no interest in it. In contrast, each of the other four weeks have discounts on themes that I enjoy, but don't like paying full price for (especially Creator), and I've got my weekly sets planned out. 20% off select themes wouldn't get me out of my seat during the rest of the year, but I'm happy to trot down to TRU to partake in the Bricktober tradition; it's fueled me with several sets to keep me happy with my family while I wait for Creator Expert to begin in January.
