9450 Epic Dragon Battle $76 shipped to US from Amazon UK

Post by ninjagoyo » Wed Dec 05, 2012 10:01 pm

I thought I had done well to get this at $90 from Kmart and wasn't planning to get another... but $76 and no sales tax is just insane. That's around 8c a piece for a set with six minifigs in it!

Thanks, Brickset!

Great deal! Don't forget that it will likely ship UPS, so add taxes (GST/HST) and $10 brokerage to the price. Still a great deal!

UPS :( - I don't mind the import fees and tax, but my UPS driver tends to throw parcels over my fence into my back yard.

Yep, such a great price - just picked one up. The price displays as £48.99, but actually costs £40.83 + £4.95 shipping = £45.78. That's ~$73.25 before applicable taxes and credit card charges (for international orders in a foreign currency). I'm expecting a final cost of ~$75.00 delivered (or 37.5% off).

you can use amazon's converted price. it comes to $76.15 i think. much better to pay in USD than to get ding'ed by your CC on the FX rate then on cross-border fees too. they are worse than paypal when it comes to ripping you off on FX rates.

Eligibility
You must place your order on Amazon.com using a Visa or MasterCard denominated in one of these currencies: Australian Dollars, Danish Krone, Euro, Hong Kong Dollar, Japanese Yen, New Zealand Dollar, Norwegian Krone, Pound Sterling, South African Rand, Swedish Krona, and Swiss Franc. To see more eligibility criteria, click here

Does buying in local currency cost me anything? Are there any additional fees?

The applicable exchange rate includes all Amazon fees and charges related to the use of Amazon Currency Converter.

I use an AmEx. Also, the currency converter includes fees that are built in. In my case, the AmEx fees are lower than Amazon's fees.

well, i guess you have a better amex card. my costco amex charges some fees which turns out higher than paying the preconverted price.

Lol, so crazy. At least he can't throw this one, because he'll need to collect money from you. Mind you, the last 2 UPS items that came from Amazon UK (for me) have been a bit beat up. Especially considering they were only in transit for 3 days. Both sets had minor creasing on the actual Lego box... not ideal for any resellers, but not a big deal for the typical AFOL.

Sorry for the newbie question but does the brokerage fee apply to the states too? I couldn't tell from the profiles here

What do you mean? In the US, we don't pay a VAT or import fees/taxes. So, the only fees you should see would be from your cc company for changing currencies, or from Amazon for providing the currency changing for you. Plus tax (if applicable).
