[REVIEW] The LEGO Movie: 70801 Melting Room

Post by Brickbuilder0937 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 11:30 pm

I would like to give special thanks to LEGO and the CEE team for donating the sets to us to make these reviews possible.

Set#: 70801
Name: Melting Room
Theme: The LEGO Movie
Year: 2014
Pieces: 122
Minifigs: 3
Price: US $12.99 / CAN $15.99 / UK £11.99

The Box:

Image

Not much to say about the box, the background art looks like the setting for this scene is deep in an evil lair.

The Pieces:

Image

Dump everything out of the box and you'll find three bags of parts, a base plate and the instruction booklet.

Image

All the parts spread out except for the minifigures.

Some of the newer pieces in this set

These small curved slopes started appearing is sets summer 2013 but only recently became available in light gray

The Minifigures:

Image

The three minifigs are Wyldstyle, Robo SWAT and Emmet.

Image

Wyldstyle and Emmet have alternate faces.

Image

Emmet's hair doesn't completely cover his scared expression from the back.

Image

Wyldstyle also has printing on her arm and hood.

The Build:

Starting the model.

Image

Holding device tilts back and the turntable allows it to swivel.

Image

Melting machine completed.

Image

The finished model with Emmet chained down, the robot at the controls and Wyldstyle sabotaging the machine with an ax.

Extra pieces

Conclusion:

DESIGN 9/10 - this set looks cool and fairly decent for a small set.

BUILD 9/10 - very simple and easy to put together, but sturdy enough to be picked up with one hand.

MINIFIGURES 9/10 - A lot of detailed printing, my only minor complaint is emmets scared face being partially visible from the back

PLAYABILITY 10/10 - with 3 minifigs and multiple moving parts this set has a significant play value for the size.

PARTS 10/10 - A good selection of parts, I wouldn't mind getting a second set just for the pieces.

PRICE 10/10 - At 122 pieces this set comes out to 10.6 cents a piece ( If you count the extra pieces it's 9.8 Cents a piece) which is actually really good for a small set

OVERALL 9.5/10

Thanks for reading and don't forget to answer the poll.
