The fact that the sets sold out in a matter of hours or even minutes shows that Lego could have taken the designs as they were, produced them in massive quantities, and sold them through their regular Shop-At-Home, and people would still have bought them. The Bricklink Designer program is a good way of getting more original sets out to people, yes, but with such limited numbers they’re going to become white whales for anyone who can’t be ready to rush the website the second it’s announced.
