Double VIP reward points is equivalent to about 10% back in LEGO reward dollars. There are also a few promotional gift offers that are stackable with the double VIP points promotion as well. Backordered items and pre-order items qualify for the promos as well. However, just make sure to order something small like a keychain so your promo gifts ship out first.
